Best Lawyers in America®
Best Lawyers in America®, also known as Best Lawyers, is the oldest peer-review publication in the country for the legal profession. Each year, it creates lists “of outstanding lawyers are compiled by conducting exhaustive peer review surveys in which tens of thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers.” It also awards “Attorney of the Year” honors to lawyers in specific regions and practice areas. Best Law Firms® is a ranking system based on peer review, presented by Best Lawyers and U.S. News and World Report. A firm must have at least one attorney on the annual Best Lawyers list to be considered eligible. There are different tiers based on practice areas and metro regions. Martindale-Hubbell Attorney Ratings
Martindale-Hubbell “has been evaluating attorneys for their strong legal ability and high ethical standards through a Peer Review Rating system.” There are three tiers of review: AV Preeminent® (the highest peer rating standard), Distinguished, and Notable. Martindale-Hubbell also offers a client-review rating system in three levels: Platinum (4.5/5.0 or higher), Gold (4.2/5.0 or higher), and Silver (4.0/5.0 or higher). Super Lawyers is a rating service provides by Thomson Reuters, utilizing a “patented multiphase selection process (U.S. Pat. No. 8,412,564) …to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource when searching for legal counsel.” Super Lawyers recognizes attorneys across the country in a wide array of practice areas.
